What Is Acne?

There's a reason it's called "common acne" -- nearly everyone suffers from a pimple outbreak at some point in life.

It starts when greasy secretions from the skin's sebaceous glands plug the tiny openings in hair follicles.

Acne commonly starts during puberty and tends to be worse in people with oily skin.It occurs in both sexes. Women are more likely than men to have mild to moderate forms into their 30s and beyond.

Acne lesions are most common on the face, but they can also occur on the neck, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms.

Heredity and hormones play important role in the occurrence of most forms of acne.

What Causes Acne?

Hormones : Common acne in teenagers starts with an increase in hormone production. Testosterone signals the body to make more sebum, the oil produced in the skin's oil glands.

Bacteria : Excess sebum clogs the openings to hair follicles . Bacteria grow in these clogged follicles.. Sometimes, this clogging causes the follicle wall to break under the pressure of this buildup. When this happens, sebum leaks into nearby tissues and forms inflammatory acne

Oral contraceptives :Depending on the type of pill, oral contraceptives may trigger acne in some women but suppress it in others. Some injectable contraceptives and intrauterine birth control devices (IUD) may also cause acne. Steroids taken by some bodybuilders and other athletes can also lead to severe outbreaks.

In addition , Stress & Lifestyle can also aggravate acne

Treatment Plan

The goal is to remove damaged layers of skin so that new and healthy skin appears. There are major ways your doctor can do this:

  • Laser: A laser creates a more even surface on the affected part of your skin.
  • MicroDermabrasion: With an exciting technique called Microdermabrasion, we can remove dead and flaking skin cells to create an immediate improvement in your skin's appearance
  • Chemical peel : A simple technique which employs the use of peeling agents on the skin. This may cause sloughing of the dead skin layers and the extent of skin shed depends on the type and concentration of the peeling agent applied.
  • Derma Rolling : The doctor rolls a device covered in tiny needles over your skin. It’s a safe way to stimulate the tissue under it to grow. You may have to do it several times. This methodology helps in skin resurfacing and making the scars less visible.
  • IPL Photo Facials : Intense Pulsed Light combine light and heat to destroy bacteria responsible for causing acne and simultaneously shrinks the sebaceous glands , thereby reducing oil secretion.
